New photos!

I have uploaded the most recent sledding and ice storm photos. You can check them out here. The weather is back to normal for the most part and we got the stupid car fixed. It was a must because I was sick of smelling exhaust fumes every time we drove it. It turned out to be some piece that attaches the exhaust to the manifold (something like that, I'm no mechanic but I saw the piece and know where it goes). The car is quiet again and not stinky anymore.

"Happy Chinese New Year!"

Says all these people. This is Mau and some of his co-workers. I was out earlier taking ice photos and forgot to bring the normal lens with me...oopsie. Anyways, we got invited to the party and could not turn down the invitation which included good food, tons of beer and oddly enough, Mexican music (the kitchen staff had their way with the stereo). It was a lot of fun and Sky was delighted to find 2 other kids to play Gameboy with. He was not delighted with the noodles which was not the American Lo Mein he was used to. Good times and I think I drank too much...yeah, that's what I'll blame the bad photography on. :P

That's Dr. Skylar to you!

This was Sky's last day of Jr.Vet class, receiving his honors. That was the coolest class and he's sad it's over. So if anyone needs veterinary advice, just let him know. He didn't get his first choice of Chinese for next term so he'll be taking Winning Chess instead.

Sick birthday...

I could have guessed I would be sick for my birthday. Not totally sick but congested and feeling kinda achy/sore throat. It wasn’t a washout. We went out to dinner then Juan came by to hang out and down some yummy strawberry cake. The plan was to hit this poker game and take their money but I just wasn’t feeling it. Juan was pressing a casino trip…It was hard to turn down because I haven’t been out there in forever, especially since they added the poker rooms but the funds just aren’t there with taxes looming overhead.

The supposed snow we were supposed to get turned out to be a huge ice storm. I watched the remainder of our snow turn into slush then freeze solid. We have lucked out so far by not losing power, a lot of people have, but we are keeping a watch on the neighbors’ tree limb resting on our wires so we are not free and clear quite yet. Mau was going to move the car back so the tree wouldn’t fall on it but he found the car frozen shut so he couldn’t get to work…he was bummed as you can imagine. This has resulted in 2 consecutive snow days for the kids. 3 in one week? “It’s a miracle!” Sky says since it got him out of his social studies test.

REAL snow finally!

We got hit by a real snowstorm finally. Here is Sky looking stylish on the snowskate. The snow hit in the middle of the day and Cincinnati Public did not dismiss early, as they all the other schools did. We remembered last year and the busses being really late so we went to pick up Sky...it only took us 3 hours total to make a 20 minute drive. It was a nightmare since the roads were not clear and we were passing numerous accidents, abandoned cars in the middle of the road and roads that were parking lots but we made it. I mean, come on, we had to get our sledding on for pete's sake. We did and I will get photos up soon, I just got them cropped and all that. We got about 6" and the news reported Cincinnati Public buses were not even at the schools until 6pm for pickup so we are glad we made the trek. From all the bad press they got that night, they cancelled for the next day and all that live here know they NEVER cancel.

Just in time they say we are to be hit tomorrow afternoon by another 6-10". Our run is getting a little "used and abused" so we could use a fresh coat for more fun.
