...And they're off!

We spent a small part of Saturday at the track. We mainly wanted to bet the Derby and run into Edr0 (who was driving out there to do the same) but when in Rome…due to our late arrival and super long lines, I made some uninformed bets on the RD races and lost on all of them. I also let Sky pick a couple long shots by color only. We left after the RD races were done so we could make it home in time to watch the Derby run. We nearly didn’t make it so I called ahead to Keith so he could give me the play by play but we made it with a few minutes to spare and scrambled up his stairs in the pouring rain where he had it on the TV for us. My horse won! I rarely win on a “ to win” bet but I had Street Sense to win and another horse to place and show and the other horse came in nowhere near showing so I am glad I didn’t place the exacta I was thinking of. No huge winnings, think it paid 5-1 or something but I’ll take it and the excitement of having a win in the Derby. We will have to go back to cash in the ticket and you know how I hate going anywhere that you can gamble.

We finished 6th in our bowling league, not the last place we were hoping for or deserved. Some teams dropped out part of the way through the season so we got to split their money that was in the pot so we all ended up with quite a bit more than last year, trophies and I got a cash prize for women’s high scratch game. We also got to eat then bowl for free. Everyone was wagering on games with their prize money so Mau won a little from one of the college guys. It was fun and I always miss bowling when it’s over but we like to do more outdoor stuff in the summer so we don’t join summer leagues.

A long overdue DDR dance-off happened last night when Sue & Ryan came by with their dancing shoes and grumpy baby. The trainees have exceeded the teacher. I haven’t DDRed with them since they were learning from me but now they have turned into quite the uber players. Ryan was particularly impressive with his ease of passing multiple 9s. I get in a rut of sorts and just play songs I’m comfortable with for awhile until I play with someone better than me then I go back through all the songs and push myself until I pass songs I thought we were out of my range. The super grumpy baby cut the dancing a little short and my metal pad was being uncooperative but it was fun.
