Is there a Vet in the house?

Saturdays are busy again with Sky starting a new quarter of his class. He got his first choice, the junior vet course, and was very excited to begin examinations and slicing and dicing. They built a dog skeleton, listened to a live dog’s heart (very patient St.Bernard) and learned a lot of medical terminology. I got sucked in while sitting in on his class and really had to resist the temptation to thrust my hand in the air when questions were asked like “Pick me! Pick me please! I know the answer!”.

Ironically, we took Kali over to the tennis courts later today to run a little. I barely got her leash off and she took off after the stick I threw. Not even a minute passed and she was clawing at her mouth. Sky ran over and said “OMG, she’s got blood coming out of her mouth!”. As everyone who knows me personally can vouch for, I am useless in a crisis. I immediately turn into a deer stuck in the headlights; possibly with my mouth wide open in amazement…I might as well not even be there. So, Mau runs over there but finds nothing he does helps…she’s very strong and getting her to let you look in her mouth is nearly impossible and the inevitable happens, Mau gets bitten twice. Tension builds as she continues clawing at her mouth and the blood keeps flowing. I snap into reality and frantically fumble through my cell phone phonebook for the vet’s number so I can find an emergency number. Skylar’s voice cuts through the chaos “It was only my first day of vet class, I DIDN’T LEARN THIS YET!!!”. Ok, I will let you know that we got Kali home where Mau sprayed the hose into her mouth and dislodged the mystery whatever-the-fuck-it-was from wherever-the-fuck-it-was and she was totally fine so you can laugh at Sky’s exclamation.
