Happy Birthday Jen!
And shut up Simon... :P
Happy Halloween & Samhain!
We watched House Of 1000 Corpses last night. Yes, I watched a horror movie and that one at that. It wasn’t planned, just happened to be on cable as we flipped around and I got drawn in. And yes I had nightmares and repeatedly woke Mau up to make sure he was right there. In the light of day I calmed my fears with rational thoughts of the humor of the film and I did think it was a good movie. I know though, I will be diving across the room for the bed so nothing grabs my ankle then fighting to keep my eyes open for a good portion of the night again tonight. I told Mau I was having second thoughts on watching Rob Zombie’s most recent film now.
Mau is playing Bob The Builder. We are putting in a cheapo door at the bottom of the stairs to keep the cats out of the 2nd floor. We got the door and stuff to make a jam of sorts to hang the thing from. First off, Mau cannot find his drill. He had looked everywhere. Of course we knew it was somewhere obvious but it is not my job to keep track of tools. I glanced in some random box in the garage and the drill was the only thing in it. Not obvious but found. Then I found the tape measure for him. He then procedes to get the tape measure stuck in a little groove between the floor and the wall…a spot not even close to where he was using it. I don’t get it either but he went to work and I saw it was still stuck. I simply removed it. Hmmm, maybe I should be in charge of this project?
All last week was beautiful weather. We had the “Creepy Campout” on the weekend so of course the weather got cold and rainy literally overnight. It rained Friday night but we got our tents up and made the best of it. We somehow kept a fire going but had to use one of those dining tents to sit under sometimes. Sleeping sucked ass because it was in the 40’s, raining and I just shivered all night. We brought extra blankets but it just wasn’t enough. The rain was annoying because it was drip (pause) drip drip drip, not consistant, so it kept all of us up.
We decided to take Sky to the tournament since we could be warm and dry for awhile and it was close to the campground. He got 3rd place in forms and didn’t place in fighting. We got back to the campsite and the weather had improved. It was sunny and not terribly cold and was drying our tents out. I felt more motivated to decorate the site so we got to it and it turned out really good, definitely in the running for 1st place which was a trophy with a witch on it! We let the kids carve the pumpkins so we knew we weren’t winning for those. This huge raccoon named Parky was brought in with sirens and hoopla for the announcing of the winners. He did not pick our site to win. We weren’t even in the list (which was quite long too). Parky can suck a nut since we didn’t win…the witch trophy? *cries*
Anyways, the site that won is the one I picked as my favorite so that was alright. The Trick-Or-Treating was awesome. Everyone was impressed/scared shitless of “Bob The Butler”, a really cool prop of Keith & Mary Jo’s. Mau dressed up in his trusty Zombie costume (it never fails…a damn good investment) and hung out in our neighbor’s fog machine smoke, making it impossible for anyone to obtain candy from either side without passing in between him, Bob and our site neighbor in a Scream costume. He even got hit on by a 60 year old lady (bait to pick up older women or just a damn good costume? You be the judge.). It was pretty cool and the kids got more candy than they do with regular “Trick-Or-Treating. My teeth are not sore really so I was able to indulge in quite a bit of it…no Dots but I managed a Twizzler and most candy bars with no nuts. I am definitely going to sign up for next year…it was really fun despite the insanely crappy weather.
We did pussy out for Saturday night. Unless you were sitting by the fire, you were freezing so Mau & I decided to go home, sleep in a warm bed then come back Sunday morning and take down the tent. Mary Jo & Keith braved it and said they were up most of the night. It started raining again at 7am so our tents were soaked and we had to pack up in the very cold rain.
It was rainy and wet Friday night and Mau & I were walking the dog and found a little group of skaters grinding the bike rack by the bathrooms. They had all just started skating and were very impressed by Mau being able to ollie. Mau had not brought his skateboard (due to the rain) so they shared with him. Awww, he made some little friends. I told him later, since he wanted to go find their campsite so they could skate again, that he’d better remember he is an old man now and looking for pre-teenage boys in a campground would probably be looked at as odd. I guess he can pass as a teenager so maybe parents wouldn’t see it like that but who knows. That place was crawling with park po-po so we didn’t want to find out.
I had to go to a different office because my orthodontist wasn’t available. They told me that bracket shouldn’t have been put on yet so they simply took it off. The wire has some slack now since that tooth was back a bit so now it rests between my lips and is making a nuisance of itself in the form of a sore forming…grrr.
Other than that, the pain isn’t as terrible as it has been and I am surprisingly finding plenty of soft foods to eat so I am not starving…it just takes me forever to eat then I get to spend more time than I would care to spend in the bathroom brushing, flossing, sticking wax places, picking around, watching them sparkle, more brushing, spitting, swishing, more brushing and finally, more brushing.
Skylar bowled a 300 series (well, 307) this week…87, 127 and 93. All over his average of an 82. It should bring him an award, according to the new awards system of USBC but the lady running the league is a bit whacked so we’ll see if he gets it. He got a new ball drilled today and he didn’t puke this time. He went up in weight 2 lbs so that should help him.
FunkyB had a sleepover this weekend. He modded the Xbox and gave us some free games so we played Tiger Woods 2006 then some Madden 2006. Mau had a floating holiday to use so he took Saturday off and we went to Fearfest. We must have some good timing because we are standing in line to buy tickets and some guy runs up saying “Would you guys like 3 free tickets?”. We all stood there like “Derrrr” because we were in shock so Skylar did the sane, adult thing and grabbed them. The people in front of us shot us dirty looks but we didn’t care because that guy saved us $90. Hell yeah. Just for that, we got some Starbucks inside the park.
The decorations were cool this year and it looked like more haunted attractions but we chose Psycho Path since it was so good last time (with Dementia & family) but it kind of sucked this year. Not the same at all except for the chainsaw wielding guys at the end but you saw it coming so no fun. The evil mop stuff was gone too. I did see FunkyB running ahead of us like a scared little girl at one point. He claims to have been trying to get ahead of us so we wouldn’t see the character jump at him so as to scare us more…uh huh, sure. One chainsaw guy spotted Sky behind me and chased him out of the end of the trail with Sky screaming “OMG! OMG!”. That was pretty good.
We got an almost-night front seat ride on The Beast unchained. That was awesome. It was fast as hell without those brake points. It had to be the best ride I have ever had! We also checked out the new ride this year…Italian Job Stunt Track thinking it would be stupid. It was short but pretty decent. Girlie screaming behind me the whole time turned out to be FunkyB. His excuse? “I just do that to mess with people.”. Again, uh huh sure.
We played a little short handed poker game last night with Edr0 & FunkyB. It was a good game with Edr0 & I battling for 1st. My pocket 2’s held up until he made his inside straight draw on the river.
I am now officially braced. I was delighted I got to pick colors…I went with light blue and will change at my first adjustment. I am not delighted with the pain though. It is pretty bad…tolerable but bad. Adult teeth are pretty set in their ways so I was told we have more pain than children in braces. If I bite down on anything at all, I nearly scream in agony. Needless to say, I am living on soup and sugar free jello until my gums/teeth aren’t quite so sore. I was happy to see one of my evil teeth had moved a little already at the end of the first day on…wow. A bracket popped off today while I was doing dishes. I heard this “boing” sound and the tooth it was on moved immediately back into place, which felt fucking weird. I looked and the wire was suspended with the bracket attached to it so I go in tomorrow morning to have it glued back on.
I think Sky is more excited about them than I am. He made me show his bus driver today and he told all his friends. Maybe it was just because he stayed home from school the day after what we now refer to as “the puke attack” so he had to go with me to get them on.
Poor Sky had to go for his teeth cleaning the very next day after me. He got the same old guy performing the task. Skylar is kind of stubborn and he was very scared since he’d only been to the dentist once years ago. When I went back he was yelling at Sky and disgusted at me for not being able to “control” him. I admit Sky was overreacting since he had nothing painful done to him…no scraping, no pointy hook thingie being forced repeatedly into his gums, no electric scrapy thingie being forced again into the same areas of already sore gums but the guy wasn’t explaining anything to him either and was acting like he was in a hurry. Sky shed tears and the hygienist whips around to me and says “See what I’m dealing with here!”. Whoa buddy, he’s 8 for Christ sake. One spot of my gums still hurts really bad, the sadistic fucker. No cavities but needless to say, we will be going somewhere else for our next checkup/cleanings.
Mau went to the nice dentist since he had an emergency but his teeth are so fucked up that it would require us living in a cardboard box from now on to afford to fix them. Really, no lie…more expensive than my complete orthodontic care plan and that is a lot. I go 11 years with a passion for gummy worms and popcorn (foe to gums but terribly yummy and low in calories), flossing only when popcorn kernel thingies need to be pried from my gums (I guess that is more often than I previously thought)…point being, I have no tooth issues besides cosmetic and jaw/bite yet Mau cares for his teeth and gums like a baby and they are falling out of his head piece by piece. I think I read somewhere that dental issues were hereditary?
I got a call from Sky’s school today to come get him. He had puked in the middle of German class. According to Sky, they promptly moved the class to another room in light of the smell. He said he felt fine so we stopped by the bowling store to pick out a new ball for him. His body decided it was a perfect time for another bout of puking (out front of store) and “sharting” (thank FunkyB for that word) on the way to the bathroom. Poor kid. We immediately drove home with the windows all the way down breathing through our mouths. I never realized how far of a drive that is nor how fast Mau can drive until today. He puked again on the front steps then got thrown in the shower, jammied then put in bed. A few hours later, I tried giving him some Pepto but that got puked into a bucket by his bed not to be tried again. I did finally get some Pepsi and Goldfish crackers to stay down with him.
In order to get my braces put on, I had to do the dreaded task of getting my teeth cleaned. I won’t lie, it’s been a long fucking time…like 11 years long. I was plaque ridden and scared to death of the actual painful cleaning and the risk of cavities or worse. I was on a time limit due to my orthodontics appointment being next week so I had to go with a bad choice of a dental clinic. The receptionist was already irritated by some other guy so she wasn’t pleasant by the time she had to deal with me, hassling me over my lack of an insurance phone number. I suggested she look it up on this machine called a computer and she reluctantly complied. The hygienist came to get me with a big smile on his face which faded once he saw the state of my bottom front teeth, which were sealed together by plaque. It was sadistic pain and once a couple tears rolled down my face, he yelled at me. Why does this always happen to me? Being yelled at when I got my wisdom teeth yanked is the whole reason for the 11 year hiatus. Knowing that going to the dentist causes many people great anxiety, why must they always act MORE like assholes once you show any type of fear? Of course it makes me think of that Seinfeld episode…
What’s the difference between a sadist and a dentist? Dentists have better magazines. Something like that.
Anyways, I made it through alive but covered with blood. Of course no one told me I had blood smeared all over my face until I walked outside and Mau said I looked like I was in a fight. There is a silver lining here. The dentist walked in for all of a minute. Ok, 45 seconds, I was being generous. She told me the best news. NO CAVITIES! Whoohoo. I think I would have died if I had to have work done. The cleaning alone drained me and I can barely talk because my bottom teeth and jaw feels like someone decked me. I know braces will probably make this feel like a fucking massage.
Skylar: Why are you getting braces mommy?
Me: So my teeth will be straight and pretty.
Skylar: NO mom! I don’t want you to change, I love you just the way you are.
He keeps saying it and I realize it is because each time he says it I say “Oh, that’s so sweet Skylar!” and hug him…I am now seeing this is an affection scam. Damn manipulative kids and gullible moms.
I am averaging about 4 hours per day on DDR now. It’s quite a bit of work opening up all the songs and such, especially since I did something stupid and erased all our data so we had to start over. I really like a lot of the new songs and some are completely retarded but I will play them anyways.
