Let's go to the Zoo!

With Mau out of town, it was the perfect time to take Sky to the Zoo. Mau would grumble audibly at the thought of going there plus it was cheaper without him. We actually walked right in not realizing where the admission booth was. We had a discussion about it and decided I should be a good example and go back and pay. Sky had wanted to go for forever now and he had a blast. I must admit it was pretty cool and not too crowded. Would have been cooler if it was free though. :P

My site editing program trial has expired (hence the use of Flickr for the zoo pics) so no more updates to it until I have $100 to buy it…that’s not going to be anytime in my lifetime I’m afraid. I kick myself in the ass for not backing up the correct file in the first place. I did do some updates while I had use of the trial under the Photos, Friends and Skate sections so please check them out if you have not already. I am still working on the current 26 Things project but I’m not too thrilled with this Flickr thing and redirecting to some other site (from my blog no less since I can’t change links on my site either :/) so not sure if I will finish. For now, at least I can post pics through Blogger.

Kind of quiet around here

Mau is working. He said he ran into Jessica Simpson in the SF airport but FunkyB was a pussy and wouldn't take a picture of her. Grrr. Mau has left us with a blog that he will most likely neglect like all the others before it (sorry but it's the truth and he knows it). It will fill us in on his travels and adventures.

And they're off...

It was pointless for me to update for FunkyB because, instead of just reading it, he jumped in his car to see what was going on in person. He brought his new camera phone which was so obviously an invite for Mau to repeatedly take pics of his ass and set them as FunkyB’s wallpaper. We all knew that was coming.

This was not purely a social visit (although a round of Mario Party was played but, c’mon) but a business one. He & Mau got jobs through the same company installing and rebuilding networks as a team. Pays decently and is in their field (finally) but there’s a drawback…it’s a travel job. They leave tomorrow for California for 2 weeks…kind of a 2 week on, 1 week off type of deal but it’s usually out of town. We’ll see how it goes. It’s definitely going to be lonely around here and some things might prove to be difficult but I’m tough (well, I can pretend at least). It’s a job and that’s all that matters…2 words, car payment.

Sky’s medical issue is nearly gone now. Oh yeah, I didn’t mention that. Sky had a bit of a “man problem”. He came out to us on Thursday saying his “weenie had a big red thing on it”. Did it ever! The whole end of it was swelled up so big, it was crazy looking. Immediately he was taken to the doctor who said he’d been bitten by a bug and was having an allergic reaction. He was put on antibiotics and Benedryl. It subsided within 2 days for the most part. The poor kid. He was a trooper and didn’t cry or complain (yes, we are talking about Skylar here). I know if it was me, I would have been bitching up a storm and we all know what Mau’s like with medical stuff. Would you care for some “whine” with your meal sir?

Sunday was amazingly sweltering here. Mary Jo offered relief in the form of her sister’s pool. You would have never thought we all could move that fast to get ready to go. It was awesome!

Grrr...smile Kali! Posted by Picasa

FunkyB, sorry to keep you out of the loop...

FunkyB kindly reminded me that I had not posted in a long time so here goes.

We spent Sunday evening with Jeni & Joe. We took Kali over to play with their dog and let the kids play for awhile. It was awesome. We hadn’t seen them in a long time. We always end up doing the food thing with them and ended up at a super cheap buffet where the kids actually got their money’s worth, which is rare.

Went to The Beach waterpark on Wednesday. It rained and a lot of people left so when the sun came out again, everything was a walk-on. It was great. None of us had ever been there before and we got to ride everything. Sky was excited because he was tall enough to ride all the slides and was brave enough as well.

Mau is temporarily working back at the restaurant. Hopefully we will be able to afford the car payment now. I also found out that my health insurance is going up nearly 50% so an extra $100 per month…it really never ends. Mau does have a couple prospects in the job market, surprisingly back in his field so we’ll see how those pan out.

The car is great and I have been driving quite a bit because of it. It’s got some fanciness the Jetta lacked but that Jetta hauls ass in the snow and purrs like a kitten as long as it’s going a solid 80 mph…any slower and it wasn’t at peak performance and tended to let you know. I think it might be a fuel pump issue but still hasn’t been in the shop but since I’m a mechanic and all…Ha! All my expert knowledge gets me is knowing no repair will be less than $600.

I have been taking Kali to the dog park. I finally got to meet Kari’s doggies and all the people Kari talks about. Apparently she talks about me and Kali to all these people too because they were all “Oh, so glad to finally meet you.” And “Oh, this is Kali?”. It was funny. Now I’m walking in there like it’s Cheers…these dog people are nuts.

*New* car...sorry Jetta, we had to do it. Posted by Picasa

Oh yeah...

We got to bring it home Sunday although the loan was not approved until Monday. I know, they trusted us with a held check and no bank approval to take it off the lot? Craziness. Somehow my credit is decent enough these days to get financed…I still can’t believe it myself. It’s not a new car, I’m not that good yet but it’s a (hopefully) reliable used car. A 2003 Focus SE. It’s nice and it runs, really all I care about anymore where cars are concerned. Since the a/c went out on the Jetta, it’s nice to have that again. Since Sky has been hearing us bitching about being broke lately since it’s been quite a hot topic, he says “How did we get a new car when we don’t have any money?”. LOL Yeah, I wonder the same thing but apparently you can. Since we live in a fairly trashy area, we thought of putting the Jetta up on blocks in the front yard just so we fit in…dammit, the rebel flag might not go well with a German car. Poo.

That fucking car!

If you can believe it, I am to be paid finally! Oh happy day that will be. I confirmed this with that guy and accounts payable.

On a what-could-happen-next note, the car has taken a turn for the worse…again. Can I stress enough to never buy a VW? Seems to be another transmission issue even though the damn thing was replaced just over a year ago, of course less than 2 months after the warranty expired. I cannot say for sure what is wrong with it since it’s the weekend and hasn’t been taken to a shop yet but it’s lurching…slipping, whatever you want to call it, it sucks and is not safe to drive at this point. I am hoping it’s just the timing belt? It has been 50k since it was replaced last so that’s just my obvious assumption. Meanwhile, we are without a car. We did go look at newer cars yesterday and today. I am hoping the Jetta is fairly cheap to fix then we’ll just keep it as a 2nd car but if it’s the transmission again, we’re scrapping it (doing whatever you do with cars that don’t run).

Yet another 15 seconds of fame

Figures I know this guy...an old friend of mine. I nearly fell over when they said his name on the news and I thought "Hmm, wonder if it's my friend." then they interviewed him and sure enough. What's up with people I know doing weird things with their cars?

I say "Fuck" a lot

We had the Chinamen over for poker a couple times over the weekend. We got a nice game together on Friday…7 people winner takes all. FunkyB came down again for the weekend, Ted/Edr0 and Manny & Quincy who work at the Chinese restaurant. I like Manny. He’s so funny, he helps move the game along, and his nickname for Edr0 is “Fatboy” (that’s always a plus). Had to frown on the Chinese speak at the table though. Gambling and speaking in foreign languages is a tad shady. Ed won so we got another game together on Sunday and worked in 2 games. FunkyB took the 1st one and Mau the 2nd.

The weekend was also filled with quite a few explosives, grill-outs, some bowling with Keith & Mary Jo, cornhole and making FunkyB ride a bike.

I called accounts payable for my work and they had nothing pending for me. Yeah, I know…wtf? This pay is for work I did in April for fuck’s sake. The girl was nice though and put me through to actually speak to the guy in charge of my invoices since I didn’t have his number. He gave me a bunch of gobbly-goo yadda yaddas and said I would definitely get paid on the 15th. I will believe it when I see it…so far it’s all been lies. Again, he apologized profusely but like I said to FunkyB, he can “stuff his sorrys in a sack”. They really don’t mean much after 2 months of them and none being attached to a fucking check. If he’d like to go ahead and deliver the apologies to my landlord, the electric company, the phone company, my kid wearing shorts 2 sizes too small, my husband with hair begging to be cut and my dog, well, just because…then I might be more appreciative of them. Right now I feel like slave labor and it just pisses me off. He also offered for me to take on a one time project to “make up for it”. More work that I won’t be paid for? No, no tanks. After I got off the phone, Skylar says “I don’t think I like your boss mommy”. I said “You know what? I don’t think I do either”.

Happy 4th of July! Blow shit up! Posted by Picasa
